Mousetail Landing State Park
Located along the banks of the Tennessee River in Perry County, Mousetail Landing State Park is one of the state's most recent parks, dedicated in 1986. The park's 1,249 acres offer hiking, fishing, boating, camping, and outdoor recreational facilities. The park is centered around the original site of Mousetail Landing, a once prominent river village during the late 1800s. Tanned goods were the major commodities shipped from Mousetail Landing; allegedly the name came from the many rodents attracted by the cowhides awaiting shipment to markets at Paducah, Louisville, Evansville, and St. Louis. The park contains several archaeological ruins from the historic era, including the original Mousetail Landing pier, a blacksmith shop, and the Parrish Cemetery.
