Tims Ford State Park

Tims Ford State Park is a 431-acre park adjacent to a 10,700-acre lake, the Tims Ford Reservoir, in Franklin County. In 1970 the Tennessee Valley Authority finished the Tims Ford Dam to provide recreational opportunities and to control repeated flooding of the Elk River. In September 1978 Tims Ford State Park was opened. It features a visitor center, twenty cabins, fifty campsites, a marina, hiking trails, a large lakeside picnic area, and various recreational facilities, including one of the largest swimming pools in the state park system. In 1999 the state opened the 6,790-yard Bear Trace Golf Course designed by Jack Nicklaus, adding to the modern recreational development of the park.
